Department Store Vs. Drugstore Makeup

157998185As a pro makeup artist I must admit I use everything from YSL concealers to $1 lipsticks at Walgreens. I have a philosophy of “whatever works” no matter the price. Its my job to sample a little bit of everything to see what does the job best. If you don’t try it you could be passing up on a beauty wonder and if it just so happens to cost a dollar (that’s even better)!

Department Store

Pro: You can try on colors before you buy them

Con: Full of germs

Pro: Customer Service

Con: Pressure to buy more products than normal

Pro: Free makeover with purchase

Con: Bad lighting to view new items

Drug Store

Pro: Affordable prices

Con: Can’t try on the colors before buying

Pro: Their makeup goes on sale

Con: No guidance on what to buy

Pro: Huge variety

Con: Hard to return unwanted items

*Makeup Tip* A few major cosmetic brands have less expensive lines in drug stores Example: Lancome-Loreal or Smashbox-Max Factor. Do a mixture of products but, DON’T skimp on your foundation.
